The old arboretum

The old arboretum
During colonial times, monks of the religious Capucin congregation developed an Arboretum, composed of a number of imported tress from different parts of the world, which several hurricanes and storms damaged over the years. The ones remaining belong to a reforestation project of 60 ha, managed by “Water and Forests Malagasy”.

The seeds of trees and plants introduced in Antanamonpera come from the four corners of the globe:

Vietnam, Gabon, Australia, Philippines, South Africa …
The remaining epèces belong to a reforestation area of 60 ha, controlled by the “Forestry Office” Madagascar.

However, trees are regularly killed either by poachers or the “Forestry” Malagasy grant exemptions …?
